In 2025, Stuart was diagnosed with head and neck cancer after what began as an ordinary trip to the dentist.
His treatment led him to St. Joseph's Healthcare Hamilton, where he underwent approximately 10 hours of surgery , followed by 11 days in intensive care.
His teeth were removed. Parts of his jaw were removed. Skin from his arm was used to create a new tongue.
The care he received gave Stuart something invaluable: more time.
